Behind the Bra: A play by Torn Curtains
Torn Curtains presents ‘Behind the Bra’ on Sundays the 3rd and 10th of October 2010 at Lamakaan.
The latest project of The Torn Curtains is “Behind the Bra”, a play written by Nirati Agarwal, based on her interviews and research of the issues faced by breast cancer survivors. The monologues and dialogues in this play express the emotions of women coming to terms with the realities of this dreaded condition. We feel that these issues are dominant not only in our society but globally.
“You see, on the night of the surgery, after all the lymphomas, the weeping, the questioning, after all the chemo, it was finally time I talked. It was time I spoke to my body……………….”
The Torn Curtains was established in 1971 by a group of people who were dedicated to making theatre an enjoyable, meaningful experience. The late Ramann Rao,a great Actor and Director of those times, the very versatile theatre and advertising personality Tony Mirchandani and the talented Mala Pasha took the Torn Curtains to great heights of popularity.
The Torn Curtains is one of the oldest surviving English Theatre Groups in South India, and has performed everything from classics to comedies, from translations to originals, in Hyderabad, Vizag, Goa, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and even Dubai.In its current repertoire the group has the very successful and hard hitting “Meri Kahani”,a play about domestic violence and marital abuse, “Karaoke Killer”, a Supper Theatre offering, and “Behind the Bra”,about Breast Cancer, all Produced and Directed by Mala Pasha.
