Amir Khusro’s Sufi Qawwalis by the Warsi Brothers
This thursday, 11th November at 7 pm, the Warsi Brothers will sing Amir Khusro at Lamakaan
Amir Khusro was the poet, musician, inventor and sufi saint genius who blended the dhrupad singing with sufi style and forged the qawwali format. He has penned qawwalis that blend Persian, Hindvi (old hindi) and Brij Bhasha in eternal bandishes that remain evergreen even 700 years hence. His qawwalis celebrate Holi, Bahar (Spring), Sawan (Monsoon), love and devotion.
Warsi Brothers are the direct descendants of the the legendary allam-e-mosiqui mohammed siddiq khan and qutub baksh miyan tanras khan (who was the court singer to bahadur shah zafar). Through generations they have preserved their dhrupad and khyal roots. They are a treat, especially so for those love hindustani classical music and sufism.
As the Warsi Brothers have a prior commitment to leave at 11pm, all are requested to be present at 7 pm when they open the concert with Qual (man kunto maula). Included in the evening’s show is the evergreen ‘chhaap tilak’, ‘zihal-e-miskeen’, ‘rang’, ‘eidgah’, and more.
