The conviction and sentencing of Dr Binayak Sen, a well-known pediatrician by a trial court in Raipur last month has received very little attention in Andhra Pradesh.

Free Binayak Sen campaigners are screening Anand Patwardhan’s “Prisoners of conscience”, a 1978 documentary on the emergency and the issue of political prisoners. This will be followed by a discussion on the larger implications of this case to Indian democracy through Q&A with experts on this subject.

About Sri Sri

Srirangam Srinivasarao was a popular modern Telugu poet and lyricist. He was born on 2 jan 1910 into a traditional Telugu Brahmin family from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. Srisri took the "telugu literary band wagon that travelled in roads of kings and queens into that of muddy roads of common man"

Sri was the first true modern Telugu poet to write about contemporary issues that affected day-to-day life of a common man in a style and metre which were not used in classical Telugu poetry. Sri Sri was given the title Mahakavi ("Great Poet"). His book Maha Prasthanam (The Great Journey), an anthology of poems, is one of his major works. Some other major works of Sri Sri include Siprali, and Khadga Srushti ("Creation of the Sword").

Goreti Venkanna

(born 1963) is a popular Indian poet and folk singer. He became popular after being a judge on a program Rela Re Rela on Telugu TV channel, Maa. He is one of the main Telangana Separation activists. He is one of the icons of Telangana culture

Dr. Yakub

Dr. Yakoob is well known contemporary poet. He won the Telugu University Best poetry Anthology Award for “Sarihaddu Rekha” among many other awards. His latest work "Yedathegani Prayaanam" was published recently which was a collection of poems written upto 2009.
