“Global Technology Outlook 2010” & “Excitement of Research and what it means to have a Technology Career”

IEEE GOLD Affinity Group and IEEE Computer Society Chapter, Hyderabad Section takes great pleasure in inviting you to an evening session led by Dr. C Mohan, a Fellow of the IBM , ACM and the IEEE, the primary inventor of the ARIES family of recovery and concurrency control methods and a worldwide renowned researcher in the field of Database Systems! He is going to talk about Global Technology Outlook for 2010 followed by an interactive session on “Excitement of Research and what it means to have a Technology Career”.

Meeting Agenda:

  • 06:00 PM – 06:30 PM – High Tea and Networking (High Tea will be served in Hyderbadi style with Irani Tea, Osmania Biscuits, Samosas and Sandwiches)
  • 06:30 PM – 07:30 PM - Global Technology Outlook 2010. GTO highlights emerging software, hardware, and services technology trends that are expected to significantly impact the IT sector in the next 3-7 years. In particular, the GTO identifies technologies that may be disruptive to an existing business, have the potential to create new opportunity, and can provide new business value to customers. The 2010GTO focuses on six topics: Workload Optimized Systems, Wireless/IT Convergence, Software Technology Trends, Orchestrating the Smart Planet, Healthcare Transformation and Future of Legacy
  • 07:30 PM – 08:15 PM – Perspective from the Champion on Excitement of Research and what it means to have a Technology Career. Mohan will share with us his technical journey in IBM, problems and challenges he faced and advice the young generation on the usefulness and excitement of a Technology career. Please don’t miss Mohan sharing his thoughts on how one can be a non manager Executive for his organization.

Technoscience BarCamp

On July 29th from 10 Am to 5 PM there is going to be a Technoscience Barcamp at Lamakaan.

Technoscience Barcamp is formatted as an extended conversation. It is intended to be a self-organized /user-generated non-conference. All attendees are encouraged to present or facilitate a session, and to restrict their talks to 10 minute informal presentations, with lots of time for discussion and debate.

TELESCOPES: Eyes to the Skies

In Lamakaan on Sunday 1st August at 11 Am we have a short lecture followed by a hands on demonstration on telescopes and telescope making.

Telescopes are the basic tool used by astronomers to study the minuscule light from the stars – which have led to a revolution in our understanding of the universe. With the help of telescope kits, participants will be made to understand in a simple manner the construction and working of telescopes.

Audience: Children above 10 years and adults with child like curiosity.

Speaker: Dr. Priya Hasan

About the Speaker: Dr. Priya Hasan  has obtained her integrated masters from the Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia. She has obtained her Doctoral degree in Astrophysics from Osmania University, Hyderabad. Priya is an Observational Astronomer, her area of research is Star formation, Dynamical Evolution of Star Clusters and Galaxy Morphology. She has traveled widely in Europe and the US on academic assignments. She is an eloquent speaker and takes great interests in popularizing astronomy.
