Logline: A young agricultural scientist who saves a village from being sold.
Synopsis: Ekta, A young agricultural scientist finds out of her research that there are several harmful chemicals being consumed in our daily food and vegetables and does her part to break this poisonous cycle. Further she finds the major reasons behind the agrarian crisis and farmer suicides happening in our country. The story revolves around three farmers facing several problems in farming and how the guidance of a young scientist will help them in saving their village from being sold.
Objective: This project is a result of one year of research on the reasons behind the suicides of the farmers in our country. The research was done by our team headed by Mr.Anshul Sinha under the mentorship of Centre for Sustainable Agriculture, Hyderabad founded by Mr. G V Ramanjaneyulu, an Agricultural scientist. The project portrays 25 major issues of agrarian crisis which are the main reasons behind 25 lakhs farmer suicides happened in our nation.
Vision: The film aims at saving every farmer from giving up farming & their life, inspiring them and society on the basic aspects of the organic farming and having a clear glimpse of the problems known from our research.
Raja (the king) discovers on the death of his sister and lover, Apurupa, that people die and they are not happy. From this point on, obsessed by his search for the absolute, poisoned with contempt and horror, he tries to exercise, through murders and systematic perversion of all values. He rejects friendship, love, simple human solidarity, and the concepts of good and evil. He takes literally all those around him like Taruni, his poet-friend, and forces them to see things logically, and levels everything around him through the force of his rejection.
But if his truth involves revolting against destiny, his mistake is to deny humanity. One cannot destroy everything without destroying one's self. This is why Raja depopulates the world around him and, faithful to his own logic, decides to strangle Kamini, his mistress, uttering his gospel of hate at everything around him. This play is the story of a superior suicide, as described by Camus. It is the most human of stories and the most tragic of errors. Faithless to humanity out of faith in himself, he accepts to die for having understood that no one can save himself by himself, and that one cannot be free while opposing humanity.
The play remains universally relevant. It represents the face of contemporary despotism, not only in terms of the whimsical madness of rulers, but also in terms of how people react to such rule with a glimmer of hope for the future
An emotive journey of a former school teacher, who writes letters for illiterate people, and a young boy, whose mother has just died, as they search for the father he never knew.

Book Launch and Discussion
Navayana & Lamakaan invite you to the launch of Anand Teltumbde's opus, Republic of Caste: Thinking Equality in the Time of Neoliberal Hindutva. It is truly a new kind of history of post-independence India. We could well call it "India After Ambedkar" but then Teltumbde is not beholden even to the cult of Ambedkar, while he hugely draws from Ambedkar. Teltumbde is unafraid of taking what seems an unconventional position on reservation, naxalism or even the Constitution. For instance, he has often argued that reservation for Dalits has, in fact, stigmatized them and consecrated caste in India’s polity.
The book, featuring a foreword by the historian Sunil Khilnani, will be launched in Hyderabad on 24th June Sunday at 7 pm at Lamakaan.
Teltumbde will be in conversation with historian Bhangya Bhukya of University of Hyderabad;
Kalpana Kannabiran, Director of Council for Social Development;
and Social Activist & Research Scholar, HCU, Firduas Soni.
About the Book:
Commanding in its scope, revelatory and unsparing in argument, Republic of Caste amounts to a new map of post-Independence India. Anand Teltumbde identifies the watershed moments of its journey: from the adoption of a flawed Constitution to the Green Revolution, the OBC upsurge, the rise of regional parties, and up to the nexus of neoliberalism and hindutva in the present day. Joining the dots between a wide range of events on the ground and the prevailing structure of power, he debunks the pieties of state and Constitution, political parties and identitarian rhetoric, to reveal the pernicious energies they have unleashed and their dire impact on India’s most marginalised people, the dalits.
The exclusion and disempowerment of dalits emerges as intrinsic to India’s republican system, whether expressed through state policies on education, agriculture and land ownership, or the tacit encouragement of caste embedded in both law and political practice. Here, the carrot of reservations comes with the stick of atrocities. As a politics of symbolism exploits the fissile nature of caste to devitalise India’s poorest whilst appropriating their votes, Teltumbde’s damning analysis also shows progressive politics a way out of the present impasse.
About Anand Teltumbde:
Anand Teltumbde is a civil rights activist and a columnist with the Economic & Political Weekly. Among his many books are Dalits: Past, Present and Future, Mahad: The Making of the First Dalit Revolt and The Persistence of Caste: The Khairlanji Murders and India’s Hidden Apartheid. He teaches at the Goa Institute of Management.

Navayana and Lamakaan invite you to the launch of Ramchandra Singh's 13 Years: A Naxalite’s Prison Diary.
Civil rights activist B. Anuradha, chronicler of the Naxalite movement Sumanta Banerjee, political scientist K.Y. Ratnam and Virasam co-founder Varavara Rao will discuss the book.
About the book:
September 1970. Ramchandra Singh enters the Hardoi District Jail in Uttar Pradesh as a Naxalite undertrial. Barely twenty, his life of expanding prospects—in studies, politics and love—is reduced to the horizon of a life term. The odds are stacked against the survival of his humanity and imagination, but Singh regenerates his gifts of empathy, humour, reflection and, above all, language—in a secret diary smuggled out with the help of friends.
A singular record of recent history and of an individual witness, Singh’s prison diary, newly expanded, appears in English for the first time. Offering unprecedented intimacy with the everyday life of the imprisoned everyman, Singh challenges us to look without flinching and question our assumptions about crime and punishment.
Ramchandra Singh (1949–2018), of Bangarmau village in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh, was a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Red Star and served on its Central Committee. He was part of the editorial board of Red Star Monthly (Hindi). He passed away when this book was in press.

The United Nations Report on the Situation of Human Rights in Kashmir released recently.
The reports talks on both sides of the LoC, focus mainly on serious violations in Jammu and Kashmir between July 2016 and April 2018, alleging some 145 civilians killed (without mentioning terrorists, including Pakistani ones) by security forces and up to 20 civilians killed by armed groups.
UNHCR commissioner Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein called for maximum restraint and denounced the lack of prosecution of Indian forces in Jammu and Kashmir due to a 1990 law that gives them what he called "virtual immunity" (AFSPA). He went on to demand a commission of inquiry by the Human Rights Council, opening a three-week session in Geneva on 18 June, into all violations, and investigation of mass graves in the Kashmir Valley and the state.
India has rejected the report terming it "fallacious, tendentious and motivated", questioning its intent in bringing out a selective compilation of largely unverified information to build a false narrative.

Discussion by Srinivas kodali and Srikanth
The film is a deeply intelligent satire aimed at the urban elite — especially those poseurs with artistic inclinations, namely establishment-artists and their patrons. It depicts their apathy towards the society at large while they get away, by the way of small talk and prosaic conversations at parties.
Inherit the Wind is a fictionalized account of the 1925 Scopes "Monkey" Trial, which resulted in John T. Scopes's conviction for teaching Charles Darwin's theory of evolution to a high school science class, contrary to a Tennessee state law which was based on Bible.
