The event centers around a compelling dialogue exploring the book's enduring impact on philosophy, culture, and political economy.

The discussion brings together prominent speakers Jyotirmaya Sharma from the Department of Political Science at HCU, and writer, publisher, and activist Gita Ramaswamy of HBT. Both speakers will engage in an insightful conversation with the book's renowned author, Kancha Ilaiah Shepherd. This gathering offers a unique opportunity for attendees to reflect on the book's critique of Hindutva and engage directly with the author and panelists.

Chaitanya Chokkareddy explores Small Language Models (SLMs) as an alternative to Large Language Models (LLMs) for supporting Indian languages. While large models offer powerful language capabilities, they often prioritize languages with extensive digital resources, leaving many Indian languages underrepresented. SLMs may provide a more practical and community-centered approach by requiring less data, computing power, and infrastructure.

The talk examines how smaller, specialized models can be trained on carefully curated linguistic resources, including community-approved texts, oral histories, dictionaries, and educational materials. Such models could support language documentation, translation, teaching, and conversational learning while allowing communities greater control over their linguistic and cultural data.

The discussion will also address challenges, including limited training resources, model accuracy, technical expertise, and the need for ethical data governance.

Akademi in 2017, Mercy Maragaret has established herself as a powerful female voice in Telugu literature as a poet, short story writer and playwright. Five volumes of her poems have appeared so far.

The seventh edition of DHWANI will feature a performative vocal presentation of her more recent poems, especially her uniquely styled love poems, in an immersive multi-media setting.

How do we understand the true relevance of Indian Knowledge Systems for the challenges we face today in 2026, with two decades of work left to fulfil our collective promises for Viksit Bharat 2047? Ramasubramanian Oruganti has been grappling with these questions for more than 30 years with his grass roots work spanning across different communities. A Night of Knowing Nothing is set around the 2015 student strike at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, where students launched a 139-day protest against the Modi government's appointment of actor and BJP member Gajendra Chauhan as the institute's chairman. The film moves from FTII to the larger landscape of protests that shaped Indian campuses between 2015 and 2020, including the movements that followed the institutional death of Rohith Vemula, the attacks on students at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Jamia Millia Islamia, and the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The Babul Eco Film Festival (BEFF) is an international environmental film festival organized by Babul Films Society NGO, a Hyderabad-based non-profit organization founded in 2012. BEFF is recognized as Hyderabad and South India’s first international environmental film festival, dedicated to promoting environmental awareness, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development through the power of cinema. The festival is held across multiple venues in Hyderabad and is timed around World Environment Day, bringing together filmmakers, students, environmentalists, and audiences from India and around the world.

Gopi Chand needs no special introduction. He was a glittering star that raised over the firmament of Telugu literature. He rose on the arena of our literature as a writer, novelist, dramatist, essayist, cine script writer, broadcaster, publicist and movie director of outstanding creative talent unrivalled for the splendour of his romantic imagination.

He produced stupendous works and all of them are marked by depth of thought, which held the minds of all Telugu people spell bound in admiration and awe. He was a philosopher, thinker and mystic rolled into one.

By keen social perspective, profound understanding and deep insight, he set up a model in thinking and brought a revolution in the minds of intellectuals. His thought-provoking doubts probed into every sphere of human activity and enriched men's creative personality. He was a conglomeration of dynamic ideas.

Tolerance is the cornerstone of his Philosophy of thought and action. Synthesis, in the matter of religion is his key note which ultimately led him to synoptic vision. He introduced philosophy to the streets. Reading him is a rich and rewarding experience.

The hiatus caused by his untimely death cannot be filled easily. However the roots of his thoughts and the spirit of his struggle should not faded away from the aesthetic world.

A History of a City through It's People

The first edition of the Shehr Walk Festival is hosting an interactive session with author Daneesh Majid in partnership with Lamakaan.

Writer and documentary filmmaker Daneesh Majid will discuss his book, The Hyderabadis: From 1947 to the Present Day, in conversation with writer and researcher Pramod Mandade.

Drawing on oral histories, generational interviews, literature and personal experiences, The Hyderabadis traces the lives of the city’s people through the political and social transformations that followed 1947.

Daneesh Majid is a Hyderabad-based writer and documentary filmmaker whose work focuses on South Asian culture, security and Urdu literature.

Pramod Mandade recently completed his PhD at IIT Bombay. His dissertation, Nothing Remained the Same After: Living Pasts of Hyderabad’s Integration, examines memories of the violence that followed Hyderabad State’s integration in 1948, particularly in the Marathwada region. His writing has appeared in The Caravan, The News Minute and The Wire.

From courtesans in royal courts to modern anti-establishment activists, women writers like Mahlaqa Bai writing in 1790 to Parvin Shakir in 1990 have fundamentally reshaped Urdu literature.

The Mushaira on September 9, curated by Rafia Nausheen, will feature some of our finest women poets writing in Urdu and Hindi.

Just as the monsoon brings color and intensity to the city, Almodóvar’s films bring vibrancy, emotion, and bold storytelling to the screen. His cinema is about freedom—freedom of identity, freedom of love, freedom of expression—and in that sense, it resonates beautifully with the spirit of September, a month when India celebrates its independence and the courage to define its own path.

Pedro Almodóvar (born September 25, 1949 in Calzada de Calatrava, Spain) is one of the most celebrated Spanish filmmakers of our time. Rising to prominence in the post‑Franco era, he became the voice of Spain’s cultural rebirth. His films are known for their vivid colors, complex female characters, and fearless exploration of sexuality, desire, and human relationships. With works like Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988), All About My Mother (1999), Talk to Her (2002), and Volver (2006), Almodóvar has won international acclaim, including Academy Awards and recognition at Cannes. His style blends melodrama with humor, turning everyday struggles into universal stories of resilience and passion.

Justice S. Muralidhar is the Chair of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory recently released its report "The essence of childhood has been destroyed": Israel’s deliberate targeting of Palestinian children in the Occupied Palestinian Territory since 7 October 2023.


Justice S. Muralidhar is an Indian jurist who practised before the Supreme Court of India for nearly two decades during which he served as counsel for the National Human Rights Commission of India and appeared as amicus curiae in several public interest cases. In 2002 he was awarded a PhD by the University of Delhi. Mr. Muralidhar was a part-time member of the Law Commission of India from 2002 to 2006. In May 2006, he was appointed as a Judge of the Delhi High Court. In January 2021, Mr. Muralidhar became the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, retiring in August 2023. His tenure in Orissa was marked by administrative reforms, including digitization of court records and the establishment of a Judicial Archives and Museum of Justice in Cuttack. In October 2023, he was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court of India and returned to legal practice. Mr. Muralidhar is the author of Law, Poverty and Legal Aid: Access to Criminal Justice (2004) and is the editor of a volume of essays on the Supreme Court of India titled [In]Complete Justice: 75 Years of the Supreme Court.

Chaitanya Chokkareddy explores Small Language Models (SLMs) as an alternative to Large Language Models (LLMs) for supporting Indian languages. While large models offer powerful language capabilities, they often prioritize languages with extensive digital resources, leaving many Indian languages underrepresented. SLMs may provide a more practical and community-centered approach by requiring less data, computing power, and infrastructure.

The talk examines how smaller, specialized models can be trained on carefully curated linguistic resources, including community-approved texts, oral histories, dictionaries, and educational materials. Such models could support language documentation, translation, teaching, and conversational learning while allowing communities greater control over their linguistic and cultural data.

The discussion will also address challenges, including limited training resources, model accuracy, technical expertise, and the need for ethical data governance.

Akademi in 2017, Mercy Maragaret has established herself as a powerful female voice in Telugu literature as a poet, short story writer and playwright. Five volumes of her poems have appeared so far.

A Night of Knowing Nothing is set around the 2015 student strike at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, where students launched a 139-day protest against the Modi government's appointment of actor and BJP member Gajendra Chauhan as the institute's chairman. The film moves from FTII to the larger landscape of protests that shaped Indian campuses between 2015 and 2020, including the movements that followed the institutional death of Rohith Vemula, the attacks on students at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Jamia Millia Islamia, and the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The Babul Eco Film Festival (BEFF) is an international environmental film festival organized by Babul Films Society NGO, a Hyderabad-based non-profit organization founded in 2012. BEFF is recognized as Hyderabad and South India’s first international environmental film festival, dedicated to promoting environmental awareness, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development through the power of cinema. The festival is held across multiple venues in Hyderabad and is timed around World Environment Day, bringing together filmmakers, students, environmentalists, and audiences from India and around the world.

Gopi Chand needs no special introduction. He was a glittering star that raised over the firmament of Telugu literature. He rose on the arena of our literature as a writer, novelist, dramatist, essayist, cine script writer, broadcaster, publicist and movie director of outstanding creative talent unrivalled for the splendour of his romantic imagination.

He produced stupendous works and all of them are marked by depth of thought, which held the minds of all Telugu people spell bound in admiration and awe. He was a philosopher, thinker and mystic rolled into one.

By keen social perspective, profound understanding and deep insight, he set up a model in thinking and brought a revolution in the minds of intellectuals. His thought-provoking doubts probed into every sphere of human activity and enriched men's creative personality. He was a conglomeration of dynamic ideas.
Many faiths and philosophies merged in his personality.

Tolerance is the cornerstone of his Philosophy of thought and action. Synthesis, in the matter of religion is his key note which ultimately led him to synoptic vision. He introduced philosophy to the streets. Reading him is a rich and rewarding experience.

The hiatus caused by his untimely death cannot be filled easily. However the roots of his thoughts and the spirit of his struggle should not faded away from the aesthetic world.

A History of a City through It's People

The first edition of the Shehr Walk Festival is hosting an interactive session with author Daneesh Majid in partnership with Lamakaan.

Writer and documentary filmmaker Daneesh Majid will discuss his book, The Hyderabadis: From 1947 to the Present Day, in conversation with writer and researcher Pramod Mandade.

Drawing on oral histories, generational interviews, literature and personal experiences, The Hyderabadis traces the lives of the city’s people through the political and social transformations that followed 1947.

Daneesh Majid is a Hyderabad-based writer and documentary filmmaker whose work focuses on South Asian culture, security and Urdu literature.

Pramod Mandade recently completed his PhD at IIT Bombay. His dissertation, Nothing Remained the Same After: Living Pasts of Hyderabad’s Integration, examines memories of the violence that followed Hyderabad State’s integration in 1948, particularly in the Marathwada region. His writing has appeared in The Caravan, The News Minute and The Wire.

Inherited Loss: A Look at Palestine from Hyderabad

Justice S. Muralidhar is the Chair of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory recently released its report "The essence of childhood has been destroyed": Israel’s deliberate targeting of Palestinian children in the Occupied Palestinian Territory since 7 October 2023.


Justice S. Muralidhar is an Indian jurist who practised before the Supreme Court of India for nearly two decades during which he served as counsel for the National Human Rights Commission of India and appeared as amicus curiae in several public interest cases. In 2002 he was awarded a PhD by the University of Delhi. Mr. Muralidhar was a part-time member of the Law Commission of India from 2002 to 2006. In May 2006, he was appointed as a Judge of the Delhi High Court. In January 2021, Mr. Muralidhar became the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, retiring in August 2023. His tenure in Orissa was marked by administrative reforms, including digitization of court records and the establishment of a Judicial Archives and Museum of Justice in Cuttack. In October 2023, he was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court of India and returned to legal practice. Mr. Muralidhar is the author of Law, Poverty and Legal Aid: Access to Criminal Justice (2004) and is the editor of a volume of essays on the Supreme Court of India titled [In]Complete Justice: 75 Years of the Supreme Court.
