The Babul Eco Film Festival (BEFF) is an international environmental film festival organized by Babul Films Society NGO, a Hyderabad-based non-profit organization founded in 2012. BEFF is recognized as Hyderabad and South India’s first international environmental film festival, dedicated to promoting environmental awareness, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development through the power of cinema. The festival is held across multiple venues in Hyderabad and is timed around World Environment Day, bringing together filmmakers, students, environmentalists, and audiences from India and around the world.

About the festival

BEFF showcases a diverse selection of documentaries, short films, animations, and experimental works that explore themes such as climate change, wildlife, forests, water, indigenous communities, pollution, sustainability, ecological justice, and the relationship between people and nature. In addition to film screenings, the festival hosts panel discussions, seminars, masterclasses, filmmaker interactions, and eco-themed activities, creating a platform for dialogue, education, and collaboration.


The festival believes that “when people see, they feel; when they feel, they act.” By using storytelling and visual media, BEFF aims to inspire individuals and communities to become more environmentally conscious and actively participate in protecting the planet. In a world that moves quickly, there is something valuable about making time to slow down, work with our hands and be present.

As somebody who loves art, I’ve found that making things has become a simple way of stepping away from the pace of everyday life. Lippan & Love is an attempt to share that experience through a traditional Indian craft in a relaxed, social setting.

The workshop introduces participants to Lippan art, a traditional Gujarati art form that uses clay and mirrors to create intricate decorative patterns. Participants will learn the basic techniques and create their own piece to take home.

The two-hour session will be beginner-friendly and informal, with all materials provided. A cup of chai or coffee will also be included for each participant. The atmosphere will be supported by a curated Indian music playlist and space for conversation and interaction.

The workshop is intended to make traditional craft approachable for people who may not have an artistic background, while creating an opportunity to slow down, meet others and spend a Sunday afternoon making something by hand.

Hyderabad Bookworms' Movie of the Month meetup. *Hyderabad’s Traffic Crisis: Let's move people, not just vehicles*
For over three decades, Hyderabad’s transport investments have been overwhelmingly directed towards facilitating the movement of private vehicles — through road widening, flyovers, grade separators and expansion of road capacity. This has happened despite successive government-commissioned transport studies recommending a very different approach: strengthening public transport, creating networks for walking and cycling, and managing the demand for private-vehicle travel. Many of these recommendations were either only partially implemented or bypassed altogether.

The consequences are now difficult to ignore. More roads have not delivered better mobility. Traffic congestion continues to consume enormous amounts of people's time, while public transport has struggled to keep pace with the city's growth and walking and cycling infrastructure remains inadequate. The question, therefore, is not simply what more infrastructure Hyderabad needs, but whether we need to reverse the bias in our transport investments — from moving more private vehicles to moving more people, using public transport, walking and cycling as the foundation of urban mobility.

This public session at LaMakaan will bring together transport professionals, urban planners, citizens and other stakeholders to examine this question and explore practical, low-cost measures that can begin correcting this imbalance NOW! Can we make better use of the roads and public transport systems we already have? Can employers and citizens play a greater role in reducing unnecessary private-vehicle travel? And can Hyderabad adopt a transport strategy that measures success not by the number of vehicles moved, but by how many people can travel efficiently, safely and affordably?

This session is a featured stop on *Beyond the Horizon: A Ride for Resilience*, a national motorcycle expedition spanning 50 cities, 100 interactive sessions, and over 7,000 kilometers on her Royal Enfield to foster dialogue around courage, mental well-being, and community strength. By integrating personal stories Seher aims to build open, compassionate spaces in every city it touches—reminding us that resilience is not built in isolation, but through shared understanding, breaking silences, and supporting one another along the way.

Every month, we pick a theme and meet to share what we’ve been reading. Our discussions are informal, open and welcoming, and you don’t need to be an expert or a voracious reader to join us.
